Chen carries Aggie golfers to sixth at Irvine Invite

UC Davis women’s golfer Betty Chen opened her second round with a birdie and finished it with 16 straight pars to finish at even par and in a tie for eighth place after the first day of the UC Irvine Invitational on Monday at the Santa Ana Country Club.

The 33rd-ranked Aggies were in sixth entering Tuesday’s final round.

Chen, a sophomore from Castro Valley, was 3-over after opening her day with a 75 in the first round. UCD sophomore Andrea Wong was tied for 24th at 9-over, freshman Paige Lee was 11-over and tied for 34th, and juniors Beverly Vatananugulkit and Blair Lewis were tied for 53rd at 15-over.

The Aggies had rounds of 308 and 299 and were 31-over, three strokes behind fifth-place Long Beach State.
