Two mercy-rule victories and a stunning comeback win over Jesuit highlighted a perfect 3-0 week for the Davis High junior varsity baseball team. On March 29 at Raley Field, the Blue Devils rallied from down 7-0 to beat the Marauders 8-7 in a game shortened to six innings due to time constraints.
Jesuit scored seven runs in the top of the third, but DHS started to peck away in the bottom of the frame as Brett Bloomfield walked, Joe Murray singled and Hayden Duer doubled them both home.
In the bottom of the fourth, Davis scored two more runs: Daniel Martin led off with a double, Bloomfield tripled to right center to score Martin and Murray’s single brought home Bloomfield.
The Devils took control with four in the fourth as Duer singled, Hudson Forrester and Martin walked and Jake Ferrera scored Duer on a fielder’s choice.
A walk to Bloomfield scored Forrester, a Chris Daunt fielder’s choice brought home Martin and a walk to Grant Dickerson brought home Ferrera. Dickerson and Manny Guerrero combined to shut out Jesuit down the stretch.
The following day, Davis rolled up Vintage, 16-6. Thanks to a four-run first, the Devils dominated.
Murray led off with double, Daunt was hit by a pitch, followed by a walk to Forrester. After a passed ball scored Murray, Dickerson (who went 4-for-4) singled home two runs. Dickerson eventually scored on another passed ball.
Davis scored five in the second when Martin singled, Bloomfield walked and Murray singled to load the bases. Walks to Daunt and Forrester forced home two before Dickerson cleared the bases with a triple. The Crushers got five in the third, but back came the Blue Devils.
Martin was hit by a pitch, Bloomfield singled, Murray singled to load the bases, Daunt hit a sacrifice fly and a double by Forrester scored Bloomfield and Murray. Dickerson singled home Forrester, Guerrero was hit by a pitch, followed by an RBI single by Reid.
Murray pitched two innings, giving up just one run, and Guerrero threw a scoreless sixth, allowing Davis to put their guests away with a two-run Forrester double in the sixth.
The Devils beat Grant, 10-0, last Friday.
