With his team reaching the Sac-Joaquin Section championship game for the sixth straight year, Davis High boys water polo coach Tracy Stapleton thought he saw a lot of talent. Earlier this week, the rest of the section\’s coaches agreed, honoring five Blue Devils with All-CIF recognition.

\n

Senior Wade Allen joined coaches\’ son and sophomore Connor Stapleton on the first team, while Noah Friedman and Paul Dailey — both 12th-graders — were second-teamers.

\n

Another senior, Mark Ward, earned honorable mention.

\n

The younger Stapleton paced DHS in scoring, with 91 goals, steals (73) and drawn exclusions (71). Another attacker, Allen, was second on the team with 82 goals, and added 28 steals and 32 drawn exclusions.

\n

In the middle, defender Dailey scored 28 times, had 16 steals and 33 drawn exclusions, while center Friedman pumped in 41 goals, drew 48 exclusions and took the ball away from the opposition 15 times.

\n

Ward scored 40 goals, had 27 steals and seven drawn exclusions for the Devils (19-12) who made their 13th title-game appearance in the past 16 years, falling to Jesuit, 9-4.
