Davis volleyball team blanks Franklin

ELK GROVE — After winning three of its first five Delta Valley Conference matches, the Davis High girls volleyball team started its second pass through league play with a three-game sweep at Franklin on Tuesday.

The 25-13, 25-16, 25-16 victory was especially satisfying for a Blue Devil squad that was coming off of consecutive losses last week.

“It felt really good and I’m really proud of the girls,” said DHS coach Julie Crawford. “Coming off of last week it would have been really easy for them to not put the work in, but we had good practices and they came out really focused (Tuesday).

“We played really good volleyball all the way around.”

Leading the Devil charge was a pair of juniors in Irene Rutazihana and Kimmy Siu, who each played great defense without forgetting about offensive production. Rutazihana had eight blocks to go with five kills, while Siu made eight digs and added three aces.

Davis is back home on Thursday, when Grant is at The Cage for a 6 p.m. match.
