Ashleigh Vandenbrink tallied 19 points as Davis High waltzed into its own Dorothy Speck Memorial Tournament final with a 63-35 victory over Vacaville Christian on Friday night at The Cage.
Vandenbrink also pulled down six rebounds, had four assists, two steals and a block as the Blue Devils went to 3-1. The Falcons fell to 2-3.
DHS now plays Woodcreek for the tourney title in a 2:30 p.m. game Saturday. The Timberwolves stopped Chico, 51-39.
In other Speck action, Eltham College Prep of Victoria, Australia, beat Miramontes junior varsity, 51-42, and West Campus (Sacramento) topped Winters, 64-40.
Rounding out Saturday play, Winters and Miramontes play for seventh place (10 a.m.), the Aussies and West Campus meet in the consolation championship at 11:30 a.m. before Chico and Vacaville Christian meet at 1 p.m. for third place.
Emma Stenz and Caitlin Mazzoleni helped Vandenbrink clean up on the boards in the DHS win over Vacaville. Stenz had 13 rebounds and Mazzoleni added seven. Both are Harper Junior High ninth-graders. Stenz collected 10 points and Mazzoleni added six — as did Danielle Gantar, whose busy night included five boards, three assists and three blocks.
Davis outrebounded the Falcons, 49-31.
Lauren Grabowski, a 6-foot-1 center, led Vacaville with 13 points and six boards.
