Still adjusting to a lineup that is without standout JiHye Lee — and with fellow junior Kaity Honeychurch playing through illness — the Davis High girls golf team opened Delta Valley Conference play with a solid second-place finish.
Contested at Bartley Cavanaugh golf course in Sacramento, DVC tournament No. 1 was won by Franklin, who defeated the Blue Devils 407-433. Laguna Creek (527) took third, with Elk Grove (591) in fourth place.
“We did great (Wednesday),” said DHS coach Rhonda Mohr. “I am especially proud of Kaity Honeychurch’s perseverance.
“Franklin will be a good challenge for us this year.”
Emily Masiel led the Devil scorers, taking third place overall with a 76. Just behind in fourth was Davis’ River Xiang with an 82.
Hayley Mitchel added an 88, which was good enough to tie for sixth.
“The girls will have to improve at each match and I am confident they will give it their best in the coming weeks,” Mohr added.
DHS will have its first chance to show off some improvement at the second DVC tournament, next Wednesday at The Reserve in Stockton.
