BELGRADE, Serbia — Cameron Wright, an All-Sac-Joaquin Section water polo player who will be a sophomore at Davis High, and his U.S. teammates got off to a great start at the Darko Cucic Memorial Tournament, which is being contested this week in Serbia.

Wright scored the game’s first goal, then added a second tally later in the contest as the U.S Men’s Cadet Team defeated Hungary, 14-9, in Wednesday’s opener.

The Americans were scheduled to face Serbia (4:20 a.m. PST) and Germany (8:40 a.m.) Thursday morning, then have a Friday matchup with Greece at 6:20 a.m.

After a Saturday contest against Russia (9 a.m.), Wright and Co. hope to play in the finals on Sunday.

Following a freshman prep season in which he scored 47 goals — good for third on the section-champion Blue Devils — Wright earned his Team USA spot at a tryout camp earlier this summer in Costa Mesa.
