Devils begin DVC football play Friday night

The 4-1 Davis High football team has done everything right in winning the past four games, then had a bye last week to get even stronger.

Three times in that stretch, the Blue Devil defense held its opponent without a point.

The DHS offense has used a great pair of running backs with contrasting styles — speedy junior Talek Deery and bruising senior Winfred Roberson who leads the team in yards (452) and touchdowns (five) — to average a solid 21.5 points per outing.

But that was the Devils’ nonconference schedule and, beginning with Friday night’s Homecoming game against Monterey Trail (3-2), now comes the hard part.

The 7:15 p.m. contest opens Davis’ five-game Delta Valley Conference slate, a schedule that also features 5-0 Elk Grove, 3-2 Grant and 3-2 Franklin.
