Playing on Laguna Creek’s small field and facing a Cardinal goalkeeper who was on her game, the Davis High girls soccer team was able to do enough to post a 4-0 Delta Valley Conference victory.
The Blue Devils got single goals from Kalani Ratnasiri and Suleikha Sutter, while Jaha McClean — playing just her third contest since missing several games with an injury — found the net twice.
Though the four goals were more than enough, DHS had chances for even more, according to coach Sara Stone.
“We had a ton of opportunities,” Stone said. “The goalkeeper for Laguna did well and we had a hard time placing our shots. But we were getting the chances to score so we felt good about that.”
The barrage of attempts wasn’t the only this the second-year coach was happy to see from her offense, as she also liked the way the Devils adapted to the different field size:
“It was a small field so we had to make an adjustment, we weren’t able to move the ball back and forth across the field like we normally would.”
Davis will get a chance to return to normal on Monday when it returns to Yudin Field for the final regular-season home contest of the spring. After a 4 p.m. JV game, the varsity team will conduct Senior Night ceremonies before its 5:30 p.m. kick-off.
