DHS\’ football finale is tonight

The 2010 prep football season comes to an end tonight for Davis High as it travels to Elk Grove to meet Monterey Trail in the Delta Valley Conference finale.

\n

The Blue Devils come in nursing a 1-8 mark (0-4 in DVC), while the playoff-bound Mustangs are 6-3 overall and 3-1 in league. Game time is 7:15 p.m.

\n

DHS faces another tough task as Monterey Trail tailback Drake Tofi has rushed for more than 1,400 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. The Mustangs\’ lone conference loss was 28-22 against powerhouse Grant. In that game, the No. 4 nationally ranked Pacers trailed in the fourth quarter.

\n

Blue Devil quarterback Shayne Reagan is coming off a performance against Elk Grove in which he set the DHS record with five touchdown passes. Despite his team losing, 45-37, Reagan was 22-of-41 for 293 yards and no interceptions.

\n

Bothered by a hip strain and a popped bursa sac in his knee, Reagan told The Enterprise he was OK to play. If Reagan can\’t go, DHS head coach Steve Smyte said backup Brandon Hassid would start in his place.

\n

“Hassid has looked very good this week,” Smyte said after his No. 2 QB took a lion\’s share of the snaps through Wednesday.

\n

Another bright spot for Davis was the return to play of running back Courtney Williams, who rushed for 86 yards against the Thundering Herd. Still hobbled by a thigh injury, Williams said he\’d be in uniform, playing tonight.

\n

Both tight end Peter Smith and wide receiver Majed Eddin had more than 100 yards last week. Eddin caught two TDs and Smith hauled in a 61-yarder for a touchdown. Wideout Dillard Brown caught Reagan\’s other two scoring strikes. All three — along with Williams — are seniors who will be wearing blue and white for the final time.
