After spending 10 days without playing — and with one eye on a stretch of three games in four days coming up next week — Thursday’s Delta Valley Conference opener at Grant was the perfect way for the Davis High girls soccer team to return to the field.
The Blue Devils took control early with two quick goals, then coasted to a 9-0 victory over the Pacers.
“We were able to put the ball in the back of the net, and it was nice because everyone had an opportunity to play,” said DHS coach Sara Stone, whose Devils last played in a 3-0 win over Will C. Wood on March 12.
“Next week will be challenging, especially fitness-wise.”
Davis (10-1) plays at Laguna Creek on Wednesday, before hosting Monterey Trail on Thursday (4 p.m.) and West Campus on Friday (7 p.m.).
Against Grant, Olivia Muller used a corner kick to set up Mackenzie DeLaughder for the first Blue Devil tally, then Kalani Ratnasiri beat a couple of defenders for the first goal of her hat trick.
Natalie Ho and Ari Heyer each scored twice for DHS, which also got a single goal from Courtney Jimenez.
Notes: DHS goalie Hannah Gendron didn’t play because of injury, but is expected back next week. Last year’s leading scorer Anna Maria Gilbertson is still out indefinitely.
