It was a long and productive day for the Davis High girls golf team as they got in six hours of strong competition at the Helen Lengfield Memorial tournament.
Contested at the par-72 Sunset Whitney Golf Course, the Blue Devils took on high-level preps squads including Rocklin, Granite Bay, Roseville, Whitney and San Mateo. Also in the field was DHS’ Delta Valley Conference rival, Elk Grove.
Team scores weren’t immediately available at the end of the day.
Taking advantage of a warm day with slight breezes, the local linksters used the tournament as another chance to gain valuable experience in the early portion of the schedule.
“This is a competitive field and it gives the girls the girls an opportunity to work on mental and physical toughness,” said Devil coach Rhonda Mohr.
Junior Emily Masiel paced Davis with an 80, while classmate Yeuxin “River” Xiang carded an 83 and senior JiHye Lee shot an 87.
Rounding out the local scorers were 12th-grader Hayley Mitchell (101), junior Casey Harris (104) and senior Kaitlyn Honeychurch (105).
