The Davis High girls golf team wound down its preseason schedule by playing a match against Rocklin on a windy Wednesday at Wildhorse.
With the gusts heavily affecting their shots, the two teams agreed to limit the outing to just nine holes, over which the Thunder edged the Blue Devils, 215-221.
“We were playing well, but came up short on a few chip shots, overhit on some downwind approaches and had a few three-putts,” DHS coach Rhonda Mohr told The Enterprise.
Junior Yuexin Xiang paced the Devils, tying for second individually with a 4-over 40, while Emily Masiel — another 11th-grader — was just one shot back in fourth place.
Rocklin senior Camille Wagg led all players with a 38.
Rounding out the Davis scorers were seniors Kaitlyn Honeychurch (45) and Hayley Mitchell (48) and junior Casey Harris (48).
“Overall, I was pleased that they could compete so well with Rocklin and I believe we are now ready for next week’s first league match at Bartley Cavanaugh,” Mohr concluded.
That first of four Delta Valley Conference meets is set for Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. Bartley Cavanaugh golf course is in south Sacramento.
