STANFORD — Tyler Raber, a Davis High graduate, fired a 1-under 69 and B.K. Sobhani and Jonny Baxter each had 70′s as the UC Davis men were in seventh place after Thursday’s opening round of the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course.

Matt Seramin added a 71 and Matt Hansen carded a 75 for the Aggies, who shot an even-par 280 for the first 18 holes. Stanford fired an 8-under 272 on its own course, taking a one-shot lead over St. Mary’s at the top of the leaderboard.

Raber finished the day in a tie for 19th place, Sobhani and Baxter were tied for 25th, Seramin was tied for 31st and Hansen was tied for 76th.

“It was a pretty good start (Thursday) for the Aggies,” said UCD head coach Cy Williams. “Everyone battled and hung in there. B.K.’s round was huge for us in his first college team start. It makes a big difference when we can have five guys competing and contributing.”

Raber opened his day with a birdie on the par-5 first hole and was 2-over at the turn. He turned the tide with birdies on four of the next seven holes, helping him play the back nine at 3-under and post his 69.

The tournament continues with the second round on Friday and finishes with 18 holes on Saturday.
