DHS jumps on Berkeley from the start in a girls lacrosse win

By March 26, 2011

BERKELEY — When Laurel Darragh’s interception led to an early score by Mari Cajandig, the Davis High girls lacrosse team was on its way, and there was nothing host Berkeley could do to slow the Blue Devils down.

After the first few minutes on Friday, DHS was in control and cruised to a 20-8 victory over the Yellowjackets.

Cajandig kept going to the net, and the result was a team-best five goals and two assists, while Lauren Blackwell and Ashley Pugh scored four times each for the Devils.

Kelly Chuck beat the Berkeley goalie twice and single goals by Kiki Tanaka, Sam Fong, Monica Berry and Erin Chavanne rounded out the scoring for Davis. Tanaka, Chavanne and Blackwell all had assists.

When the Yellowjackets managed to get near the Blue Devil cage, goalies Kelly Richmond (five saves) and Briki Cajandig (four) were effective.

DHS stays on the road this week for a contest at Bishop O’Down on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a make-up game Thursday at Oak Ridge.
