It’s been an eye-popping first half of the season for the 2013 Davis High junior varsity football team.
The Blue Devils have excelled in every aspect of the game, winning their first five contests including the past four by an astounding total score of 155 -12.
DHS has standouts at almost every position on both sides of the ball, with sophomore running back Cole Morse pacing the offense. In the Devils’ most recent win, a 28-0 shredding of Woodland at Brown Stadium on Sept. 27, Morse gashed the Wolves for 142 yards and three touchdowns. It was the fourth straight game in which Morse had run for at least 93 yards.
Davis quarterback Jack Beckman also has been tough to stop, including a great performance in a 35-6 win over Rio Americano on Sept. 20. In that contest, Beckman completed 7-of-9 passes for nearly 200 yards and two scores, and ran it in himself for a third TD.
On the other side of the ball, the local run defense has been stout. The Blue Devils have held two opponents — Armijo and Woodland — to negative rushing yards in entire games, while another foe, Foothill, was at minus-45 total yards at halftime of a 46-0 loss to DHS.
Freshman Tucker Fisk has led the Devil front seven, picking up several sacks, forcing and recovering fumbles in addition to helping his team play tight against the run. When opponents have been forced to throw, Davis sophomore defensive back Will Bodendorfer has intercepted six passes so far in 2013.
