ELK GROVE — Audrey Dufresne threw a no-hitter and the Davis High offense could not be stopped on Monday as the Blue Devil softball team defeated a depleted Monterey Trail squad, 17-1, in a Delta Valley Conference matchup.

The win put DHS (11-16) at 6-3 in league play, with one game remaining — Senior Day on Wednesday (4:15 p.m.) against first-place Elk Grove (9-0).

With a victory over the Thundering Herd, the Devils would clinch second place in the DVC and a playoff berth. A loss puts Davis in a three-way tie with Franklin and Laguna Creek, leaving a Thursday coin flip to decide which two of those teams earns playoff berths.

Elk Grove beat the locals, 8-2, on April 21 in a game that was closer than the score indicates.

“It’s just stringing hits together like we’ve been doing the past three games,” coach Art Guerra said when asked what the Blue Devils must do to beat the Herd. “This time, we are at home, it is Senior Day and there’s just a lot to play for. So if we just don’t leave runners on base, we can definitely win the game.”

Speaking of stringing together hits, DHS scored 11 runs in the first two innings of Monday’s game to take control.

Audrey Dufresne went 3-for-4 to support her no-no, while her sister Ashley Dufresne hit a home run and a double. Emily Ginn had two-bagger of her own and added four RBIs as she was one of six Devils with two hits in the game.

Catherine Slabaugh, Kaitlyn Lagattuta, Maddie Asta and Rachel Mobley — who had two doubles — also performed the feat against a Mustang squad that lost five players because of grades before the game.
