The frosh/soph and junior varsity Davis High cross country teams completed the season with a monster performance in Saturday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Championships at Folsom’s Willow Hill course.

The large number of personal bests and individual wins helped the younger Blue Devils earn three section titles, including wins by the JV girls and boys and the frosh/soph girls. In addition, the DHS sophomore boys took second place, while the freshman boys placed third. Individually, Devil runners won four of the underclass races.

By placing all five scorers in the top 10, the local frosh/soph girls dominated the competition with a winning score of 16 points. Freshman Abigail Fisk ran with the leaders for much of the race, then turned on the jets in the last mile and won convincingly in a personal best of 13:01, which was the fastest frosh/soph time across all divisions.

Packing in behind Fisk were Adria Lammers (third in 13:32), Jasmine Casillas (fourth in 13:37), Elise Chu (sixth in 13:59) and Hallie Lassiter in 10th (14:18). Sarah Sherwin (13th) and Isabella Ruffalo-Burgat (15th) rounded out the Blue Devils’ top seven with Davis individuals Emily Talbert (18th), Julia Zabala (19th), Jodie Stroeve (22nd) and Arielle Fletter (40th) achieving personal bests..

The Devil JV girls — led by the 1-2-3 punch of Claire Dicker, Elisa McIsaac and Danielle Gantar — easily won with a team score of 32. Dicker won the race in 20:11, with McIsaac (20:31) and Gantar (20:51) beating all runners from other schools. Also for DHS, Zoe Juanitas was a strong seventh (21:16) and Suleikha Sutter was 24th (22:34). Emily Lufburrow (30th) and Katherine Dimond (35th) ran well for the Blue Devils.

The local JV boys also overwhelmed the competition to win with 21 points, as Ani Ramakrishnan took first in 17:05. He ran in a pack with teammates Daniel Rowen (17:20) and Alex Arnheiter (17:21), who captured second and third places. Matthew Mayr (17:37) was close behind in fifth, while the trio of John Conant (12th, 18:08), Andrew Leung (15th, 18:15) and Justin McGrew (18th, 18:30) ran extremely well in the later part of the race to help secure the Davis victory.

Devil Kellen Browning won the sophomore boys race, helping his team take second behind Oak Ridge. DHS’ Andrew Amen (12:01) crossed in eighth, with Winston Tran (ninth, 12:04) just behind, while Brendan Deas (18th, 12:22) and Ryan Nishikawa (30th, 12:40) passed several runners in the final stretch of the race. Aidan Cox (33rd) and David Wilson (35th) rounded out the local top seven.

The Blue Devil freshman boys placed third in a race that saw only six points separate the top three teams. Davis’ Jackson Laird battled with the front pack of runners throughout race, eventually taking third in a personal-best time of 12:03. Nicholas Leacox had a great race, placing seventh in a personal best of 12:19, while Aaron Bushnell (14th, 12:38), Fox Conner (17th, 12:50) and Ethan Tang (29th, 13:18) also helped the Devil cause.

Jack Williams (37th) and Bryton Moeller (48th) finished out the DHS top seven.
