DHS girls look to rebound tonight

By October 6, 2010

After TuesdayÕs middle contest of a stretch that has the Davis High girls volleyball team playing three games in three nights, the Blue Devils are glad to have a chance to bounce back tonight.

DHS followed up a good win in MondayÕs Delta Valley Conference opener against Grant with a three-set nonleague loss to Pioneer on Tuesday. The Patriots beat the Devils, 25-11, 25-16, 25-22.

ÒIt was disappointing, especially after playing very well against Grant,Ó Davis coach Leigh Whitmire said. ÒWe just didnÕt play very well. Sometimes a few players will be off and some other players can pick up the slack, but everybody was off their game (on Tuesday).Ó

But the final nonconference matchup will be out of the Blue DevilsÕ minds quickly as DVC play starts again for good tonight against Laguna Creek. The Cardinals will play at the DHS gym today at 6 p.m.

ÒWe are excited to start league play and hopefully we can just continue improving,Ó Whitmire said. ÒOur preseason was really stocked with good teams, which we do on purpose, but it can be frustrating when youÕre not getting the wins. We are really looking forward to having some success in league.Ó

Whitmire mentioned Rita Allen-Sutter was one of the few players who performed well against Pioneer and says in DVC play, she would like to see Òour setters step up a little bit and our seniors take on more of a leadership role.Ó
