DHS sticks it to the Honkers

By
September 23, 2010 |

After taking another quick lead on Wednesday at Susan Beaton Field, the Davis High girls field hockey team was starting to cruise.

But a Yuba City goal put the Blue Devils back on the attack, which was bad news for the Honkers as DHS finished off a 6-1 victory.

In taking control early, the Devils got goals from Kylie Drexel and Kayla Robinson Ñ off a pass from Ali Campos Ñ in the first five minutes of the contest.

The 2-0 lead, combined with Ashley PughÕs great play in the midfield, had Davis feeling good, and then a nifty passing sequence between the mids and forwards that led to a Campos goal had the Blue Devils feeling great with just 10 minutes left in the first half.

ThatÕs when Yuba City managed to break through the DHS backfield to cut the lead to 3-1.

Getting the wake-up call loud and clear, the Devils immediately got in scoring position and Pugh put a ball in the short corner.

Pugh scored again to open the second half and Davis defenders Lauren Holtz and Megan Whitworth continued to push the ball ahead, which culminated with a final goal by Emily Brown.

The Devils will travel to Susanville on Monday to play league opponent Lassen.
