Finally, DYSA starts the softball season

The weather broke just in time for the girls of the Davis Youth Softball Association to get in a full week of competition.

After a gala Opening Day ceremony was washed out last Saturday, games in all divisions got under way in earnest on Monday.

Here’s a look at some of the action…

Adrenaline Rush 12, Watson 11: In a see-saw 12-and-under contest, Rebecca Engelhard and winning pitcher Caitlyn Miller — who scored the winning run — shared mound duties as a number of Rush players contributed.

Key singles by Hazel Jackson and Engelhard fueled two, five-run innings and Abbey Fisk, Miller, Engelhard, Ariel Wallace, Jordyn Micke, Jackson and Ali Gifford all had steals of home.

Maya Layton caught a fly ball and turned it into a double play when she threw to Jackson, who tagged out a runner. Juliet Heller was strong in her first game ever.

Doubles by Isabelle Watson and Nicole Brooks fueled the losers, despite terrific pitching by Addison Lyons and good catching from Watson and Abby Sutcliffe. Skyler Conner caught a deep fly.

Patriettes 10, Monos Locos 10: Both teams scored four runs in the final frame to wind up in a tie for the first 10-and-under game.

With catcher Mia Gladding and fielders Shauna Wallace and Lauren Wilcox providing excellent defense, the Locos banged out 11 hits.

Katie Gibson, Shasta Wickham and Alyssa Yee each had two hits and Brittany Steenbergen, Lauren Tull, Mariah Cortina, Brooke Martin and Grace Hickerson had one apiece.

Leading hitters for the Patriettes were Marie Dean, Marissa Caldwell, Kennedy Hornbuckle and Katie Hall.

Hall and Maddie Tomsella shared the pitching duties and Hornbuckle was tough behind the plate.

Flaming Demons 14, Tiger Cats 8: Another U-10 outing had a lot of runs as Jazmin Roberts scored three runs for the Demons while Gia Fanucchi had two hits and scored twice for the Cats.

Notes: The DYSA Page runs every Friday in The Davis Enterprise. Game recaps sheets are available at the team boxes at each field. Content of the page depends on the DYSA scorekeepers turning in completed sheets, which board member Cathy Price organizes and provides to the Enterprise.
