Fog keeps Watney, Woods from playing

SAN DIEGO — Davis High graduate Nick Watney, like the rest of the field at Torrey Pines, is going to have to wait another to pursue tournament leader Tiger Woods.

A thick fog shrouded the course along the Pacific bluffs on Saturday and essentially wiped out the entire day at the Farmers Insurance Open. Woods, a six-time winner of this event, had a two-shot lead and never even bothered coming to the golf course. Three players completed one hole — and that was after a three-hour delay.

Playing with Woods on the North Course on Friday, Watney shot a 3-under 68 to put him in a tie for ninth a 7-under. He is four shots behind Woods, who carded a 65 on Friday.

Third-round play was to resume on Sunday morning and go as long as daylight allowed. The tournament is scheduled to finish Monday.
