Forgettable outing for the Blue Devil softball squad

One day after dominating Yuba City and winning by the mercy rule, the Davis High softball team was back on its home field for another blowout on Tuesday.

Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, they were on the wrong side this time, falling to El Camino, 10-0.

The Eagles (5-7) scored three runs in the second inning, then exploded for six more in the third to drop DHS to 4-6.

“It’s just one of those things where we got our (butts) kicked and it will be all about seeing how can we come back (Wednesday),” said Devil coach Art Guerra. “Coaching and playing this game, you know you are going to have games like this. Am I disappointed? Yeah. But I’m not mad because you understand that this is going to happen sometimes.

“We couldn’t field, we didn’t pitch well and we only had two hits. It was just one of those days.”

Davis senior Kaitlyn Lagattuta had a hit in the bottom of the first, but was stranded on the bases. The locals then had their best opportunity to score in the second frame as freshman Audrey Dufresne reached on an error and senior Maddie Asta singled.

The runners moved to second and third on a sacrifice by sophomore Faith Harlan, but neither was brought home.

Things don’t get any easier for the Blue Devils, who host two area powerhouses in the next three days. Del Campo is in town Wednesday for a 4:15 p.m. contest and Pleasant Grove visits Friday at 4:15 p.m.
