It was quite a week for the Davis High girls water polo team, which wrapped up its regular season on Saturday.
From the pride of Senior Night to the fun of a blowout victory that same day, the stress of a final-period comeback and finally the excitement of playing well against a high level of competition, the Blue Devils experienced the full range of emotions in the pool.
And senior Claire Evans seemed to exemplify it all with her performance in Wednesday’s 19-1 win over Laguna Creek. The Greiner Athlete of the Week celebrated her final appearance at Arroyo Pool by scoring four goals, then had a little fun by taking over as the team’s goalie for the final minutes.
Later in the week, as the competition stiffened, Evans and her teammates stepped up. On Thursday, DHS outscored Rio Americano by five goals in the final period to pull off an 11-9 victory. Then Friday and Saturday, the Devils bounced back from a tournament-opening loss to take ninth at the Northern California Championships.
