Greiner Athlete of the Week (10/3/12): DHS runner Jack Scranton

Each year, Davis High cross country coach Bill Gregg likes to put his teams in the Stanford Invitational in part to see how they measure up against the other top contenders in the Sac-Joaquin Section. After Saturday’s 2012 Stanford Invitational, Gregg said the competition “looks to be very stiff.”

If that is the case, one wonders what the other teams had to say about the Blue Devils and Jack Scranton, their senior stud. Scranton, who last year took third at Stanford before winning the individual section championship, blazed to first place on Saturday, crossing the line in 15:51.

By improving his time by two seconds from a year ago, the Greiner Athlete of the Week helped DHS capture the team title in the Division I (large schools) race.

Scranton also showed that he is all the way back after suffering an injury last spring that ended a promising track season.
