The UC Davis swim team had a host of event-winners on Saturday — leading to a dominating victory over Pacific — one of the Aggies, junior Haley Porter, was responsible for top finishes in two of the most exciting races of the day.
Though it might have seemed more like a spirited practice since Porter’s main opposition in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle came from her UCD teammates, it didn’t mean there wasn’t fierce competition to the wall.
But the Greiner Athlete of the Week edged Morgan Lee, 24.41-24.50, to capture the 50, then out-touched Samantha Shellem, 53.44-54.12, to win the 100.
Winning those events is nothing new for Porter, who broke Nevada Union school records in both events and won the 2009 Sac-Joaquin Section title in the 50, beating Davis High’s Caitlin DeNise, among others.
