When it comes to birds of prey, Hawks are known for their intelligent feeding habits. When it comes to basketball, Hawks are known for scoring.

Sophomore Corey Hawkins showed off his scoring ability last week in leading the UC Davis men to a pair of victories.

The Greiner Athlete of the Week had 17 points in a win at Northridge on Thursday, then exploded for a school-record 40 points — on 10-of-14 field goals, including 8-of-9 3-pointers and 12-for-12 free throws — in beating Hawaii on Saturday.

Scoring, however, is nothing new for the Hawkins family. Corey — who is the all-time Arizona prep leader in points and is averaging 19.2 ppg this season — learned from his father Hersey, who was the 1988 National Player of the Year after scoring 36.3 ppg for Bradley, then went on to total 14,470 points in a 12-year NBA career.
