Samantha Shellem wasn’t just taking a shot at putting herself into the UC Davis swimming record book at last weekend’s Mizzou Invitational. It was more like an all-out assault.
In each of the three days the Aggies swam, the junior posted a time that ranked in the school’s top four all-time. Instead of saving the best for last, Shellem opened with her strongest swim on Thursday.
That day, the Greiner Athlete of the Week swam the fastest 500-yard freestyle race in school history by nearly four seconds as she won that event in 4:48.59.
Shellem came back Friday to hit an NCAA B qualifying standard in the 200 free, clocking a 1:47.73, the third-best time ever from an Aggie in that event.
Saturday saw Shellem go 17:04.60 in the 1,650 free, the fourth-best performance in UCD history.
