The UC Davis men’s water polo season has been over for more than two months, but that didn’t stop Aggie senior utility player Matt Vowell from making a splash this week.
The former Jesuit star, who played in some memorable prep playoff matchups between the Marauders and Davis High, was picked Tuesday for the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America team as an honorable mention.
The selection comes after Vowell capped his career by scoring 35 goals and adding a team-best 43 assists — one shy of a school record — in earning first-team All-Western Water Polo Association accolades.
Vowell also led UCD in minutes played (692), exclusions drawn (66) and field blocks (23).
The Greiner Athlete of the Week helped the Aggies take fourth at the WWPA championship tournament and finish the season ranked 18th in the country.
