The UC Davis gymnastics team was determined to get the season off to a good start last Friday in San Jose, and with senior standout Katie Yamamura not competing, it was up to senior co-captain Michelle Ho to lead the way. Ho certainly delivered, helping the Aggies to their highest season-opening score in program history.

After UCD opened with a so-so beam rotation, the squad moved to the floor and Ho — an All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation performer on the event in 2012 — was in her element. The Greiner Athlete of the Week took second place with a 9.800 floor routine to pace the Aggies.

But Ho wasn’t done there as UCD ended the day on her other best event, the uneven bars. The Mountain View native, who also earned all-conference accolades on bars last season, swung to another 9.800, this one good enough to tie for first place.

Ho’s performance — which was recognized Tuesday, when she was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week — helped the Aggies pass over rival Sacramento State to finish third at the meet.
