Greiner Athlete of the Week (2/20/13): UCD hurdler Kayla Carter

By From page B1 | February 20, 2013

As the indoor track and field season comes down to its final month, UC Davis women continue to hurdle over school records set by previous Aggie athletes.

On Sunday, in the Run for the Dream Invitational at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, UCD’s Kayla Carter was the first to do it literally.

Carter won her section of the 55-meter hurdles in 8.30 seconds, good enough to break the all-time Aggie mark of 8.38 set by Gretchen Haussler in 2006.

The Greiner Athlete of the Week, who prepped at Woodbridge High in Lodi, went on to take fifth overall, posting an 8.31 in the finals.

In fact, 55 was the magic number for UCD on Sunday as it also saw Ashley Marshall, Melanise Chapman, Janay Pierce and Cekarri Nixon — in that order — run the four fastest 55-meter times in Aggie history.
