Greiner Athlete of the Week (3/13/13): DHS soccer player Gaby Herrera

If the past two games are any indication, the Davis High girls soccer team will rely on its impenetrable defense, while freshman Gaby Herrera takes care of the offense.

Everything starts with a Blue Devil defense that has been amazing in the early part of the season, allowing exactly zero goals in DHS’ first four regulation-length games.

And after a scoreless tie Feb. 28 against Will C. Wood, Herrera saw an offensive need and quickly stepped up.

In wins over Rocklin (2-0 on March 6) and Del Oro (1-0 on Thursday), the Greiner Athlete of the Week has scored all three of DHS’ goals. Not bad for a player who still goes to Emerson Junior High.

There is one way to keep Herrera from scoring, however. The Devils’ Tuesday game against Granite Bay was canceled.
