Greiner Athlete of the Week (3/6/13): UCD basketball player J.T. Adenrele

When the ESPN crew does its research in preparation for Thursday’s nationally televised basketball game between the host UC Davis men and Long Beach State, Aggie junior Ryan Sypkens (seventh in the country in 3-pointers made) and sophomore Corey Hawkins (the No. 13 scorer in the nation) will be front and center.

But when the game starts, another sophomore — 6-foot-7 J.T. Adenrele — likely will stand out as well, and not just because of his height.

The Greiner Athlete of the Week is fresh off of his fifth double-double of the year, a feat he accomplished before the first half ended in UCD’s 71-68 win on Saturday at Fullerton.

Adenrele, who played high school hoops at Oakmont, finished that game with 22 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. That stat line, combined with his 13-point, 10-board outing in a Thursday win at UC Riverside, was enough to earn Adenrele recognition as the College Sports Madness Player of the Week.
