An old baseball saying suggests that it’s the only sport where being successful one-third of the time gets you into the Hall of Fame.
So when UC Davis second baseman junior Steven Patterson hit .500 in leading the Aggies to four wins last week, the honors were bound to come.
The Stockton native, who transferred in this year from San Joaquin Delta College, earned the Big West’s Field Player of the Week award, and is also the Greiner Athlete of the Week.
In helping UCD defeat Nevada on Tuesday, then sweep UC Riverside in three weekend games, Patterson went 9-of-18 — including two home runs and three doubles — scored nine runs and knocked in 11 others.
The Aggies’ leading hitter at .338, Patterson was riding a seven-game hitting streak into Tuesday’s game at Santa Clara.
