Greiner Athlete of the Week (5/22/13): DHS track athlete Ellie Eaton
Most people who wake up with a sore throat and a fever might just spend the rest of the day at home recovering. On Friday, Davis High senior speedster Ellie Eaton did something different to nurse herself back to health — head to Elk Grove High School for the final day of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Championship track and field meet.
The Greiner Athlete of the Week began to feel better when she crossed in 25.54 to take fifth in the 200 meters. A third-place finish in the 400 (56.62) was even better medicine, setting Eaton up for her grand finale.
Teaming up with Rose Stephens, Han-ah Sumner and Laney Teaford in the 4×400 relay, Eaton ran the 400-meter leg of her life, going 56.2 to close a gap and put the Blue Devils in second place.
The quartet’s 3:53.66 broke its own school record by more than a second and helped the DHS girls take third place overall with 69.5 points. Eaton, who also helped the 4×100 squad take sixth, had a hand in 21 of those Devil points.
