Facing elimination in a pair of games following an extra-inning loss to Manhart in the American Legion District 6 Tournament opener on Wednesday, Yolo didn’t panic on Thursday and Friday, even though a defeat either day could have ended its season.
In fact, Post 77 seemed to thrive under the pressure, especially in the batter’s box. And no local player contributed more than former Davis High slugger Galan Hoshovsky as Yolo beat West Sacramento, 15-8, and took a rematch with Manhart, 21-7.
The Greiner Athlete of the Week went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three more runs scored against West Sac, then came back with four more hits in Friday’s explosion.
Hoshovsky, who plays club baseball at Oregon State, graduated from Davis High in 2011. He hit .311 and smacked two home runs for the Blue Devils that year, helping them to a 22-5-1 record.
