WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — UC Davis junior Matt Hansen birdied three of his first seven holes on Wednesday, finishing at 1-under 71 and in a tie for 23rd after the first round of The Amer Ari Invitational in Hawaii.

The tournament, being played at the Kings’ Course at Waikoloa Village, features a powerful field with five top-10 teams in the mix, and 10 in Golfstat’s top 50. The Aggies were tied for 18th with host Hawaii after shooting a 10-over par 298 on Day 1.

UCD’s Tyler Raber, a Davis High graduate, posted a 73 and was tied for 51st, Jonny Baxter and Matt Seramin each had 77’s and were tied for 96th and freshman Ben Corfee, who prepped at Jesuit but hails from El Macero, was 115th after shooting an 80 in the event’s opening round.

Wednesday’s highlights included Raber’s eagle on the par-5 second hole and Corfee making his Aggie debut and carding a birdie on No. 4.

Thursday’s round was set to begin at 9:30 a.m. and the tournament concludes on Friday.
