A large crowd gathered Saturday afternoon for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for UC Davis’ Aggie Field Hockey Facility, on the corner of La Rue and Dairy roads.
Attendees included UCD head coach Tiffany Huisman, Athletic Director Terry Tumey, other campus dignitaries, staff and current and former Aggie field hockey players. The alumnae and current players christened the field with an alumni game following the ceremony.
The $3.2 million facility — built thanks to the collaborative efforts of donors, parents, the athletics department and the campus — broke ground in late May and is ready for the Aggies’ season opener Sunday, Aug. 31, versus Fairfield.
With a sport-specific facility of its own, UCD field hockey players and staff will have more flexibility in scheduling classes instead of having to share Aggie Stadium with other athletic programs and their respective practice schedules.
