Defending champion Tyler Raber, a Davis High graduate who recently completed a four-year golf career at UC Davis, shot up the leaderboard at the Trans-Mississippi Amateur Championship on Thursday to finish the prestigious tournament in a tie for 18th place.

Raber, who won the event by one stroke last year, finished at 3-under 277 in 2013 at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.

After carding 71s on Tuesday and Wednesday, the former Blue Devil and Aggie standout was at the top of his game for the final 36 holes on Thursday. Raber shot a 69 in the morning, then a blistering 66 in the final round.

With the outstanding Thursday performance, which was tied for the best of the day, Raber moved up 31 spots. He still finished well behind Clovis’ Bryson DeChambeau, who ended up 14-under par to clinch the tournament victory.
