The crowded Davis Youth Softball Association U8 field kicks off its tournament on Friday at Playfields Park.

The pool play to determine the bracket seedings was fast and furious. Here’s what happened …

Junior Mints 6, Lucky Leprechauns 4 — Grace Scheuring (two doubles) and Lily Hessl (doubles and single) were 2-for-2 with two RBIs each for the winners.

Mara Zingaro doubled and singled and Natalie Simons, Gilianne Brush and Anna Harrison all hit safely. Brush and Harrison drove in runs.

Bruce and Hessl pitched strong innings, while Gaby Moreno, Sydney Eberhardt and Emma Brayton played terrific defense.

Madison Martin, Sunny Silverstein, Jordan Zuniga and Sarah Maranta all doubled for the Lucky ones. Zuniga pitched well and Olivia Fuszard was solid at third base,

Junior Mints 5, Tiger Cats 4 — Kylie Martinez had the game-winning hit and finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Emma Brayton also went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Mint teammates Anna Harrison (2-for-2, run) and Lilianne Brush (2-for-2, run) also exploded at bat.

Lily Hessl and Brush pitched well, Gaby Moreno and Natalie Simons turned in web gems and Sydney Eberhardt was relentless behind the plate. On the bases, Grace Scheuring and Maya Zingaro were swift.

For the Cats, Heather Breckner smacked a double and two singles, while Megan Lovell and Abby Wilbur each singled twice.

Natalie Thoe, Grace Heringer and Cate Fehrenbacher were strong in the circle and Thoe was strong afield.

Blue Devils 4, Giants 4 — Audrey Teresi, Emma Catacutan, Alexa Folb and Dana Joung all had two hits for the Devils.

Catacutan started a crucial double play, which Caroline Brennan completed. One of Folb’s hits was a double.

Blue Devils Stella Cardenas and Elise Wyman both had two hits, Lily Gieschen doubled and Jane Garvin, Bianca Seed and Lindsay Taylor all singled.

Taylor and Emily Castles pitched well and Analisa Matamoros, Seed and Castle were strong on defense.

Stingers 7, Lucky Leprechauns 6 — Four pitchers — Makena Fix, Alexandra Zarborg, Erika Wenner and winner Sarah Griffiths — combined to help the Stingers get a victory.

Sarah Lagattuta had two doubles and a single, while La’Siya Earnest and Griffiths hit a double and single each. Elizabeth Barger had two singles and Zarborg, Maya Beal and Wenner added hits.

Red Flames 8, Giants 1 — Doubles by Olivia Dirksen, Sophia Fucile and Emma Catacutan helped the Giants. Dirksen added two scoreless innings and Hana Lamborn played well afield.

Natalie Thoe and Grace Heringer each were 2-for-2 and Alyssa Waterson, Breckner and Waterson combined for a good showing in the circle.

Blue Devils 12, Bazooka Bubble Gum 1 — Lily Gieschen, Bianca Seed and Emily Castles pitched well for the Devils. Gieschen fanned three hitters in her first appearance of 2o12 — and made a web gem.

At the plate, Analissa Matamoros doubled three times and scored twice, Seed doubled twice and singled while scoring once and Gieschen and Elise Wyman added three singles apiece (Wyman scoring three times).

Lindsay Taylor was 2-for-2 — both hits doubles — with two runs scored.

Lucky Leprechauns

The Leprechauns played a couple of games, but no scored were turned in with the recap sheets. Anna Lovely pitched well in one game with fielding support from Jordan Zuniga.

Kayla Chin and Lovely both doubled for the Leprechauns in the other game as Zuniga pitched three strong innings. Sophia Pulomares had two RBIs and Sarah Maranta was quick on the base paths.
