The goals just kept coming as the unbeaten, twice-tied Davis High junior varsity girls soccer teams outscored two opponents, 22-0, last week.

First, it was Laguna Creek falling, 8-0, on April 1. Then, Monterey Trail was overwhelmed, 14-0, Friday.

Wet and cold road conditions greeted the Blue Devils against the Cardinals, but it was 32 local shots that drenched The Creek.

Tiffany Miras got off 10 of those attempts, including two second-half scores.

It was Morgan Metler who got DHS on the board early, before additional strikes from Alexis Olmedo, Maggie Whittemore (assist Mackenzie Quick) and Tessa Malone made things 4-0 at intermission.

A.J. Scheisari scored twice in the second half.

At home against the Mustangs, Alex Diaz began the scoring avalanche, then assisted when Elsa Iverson struck moments later.

Scheisari scored the next two goals (one off a Jodie Stroeve feed) before Miras ended first-half festivities with a hat trick — two of the goals coming thanks to assists from Hannah DeKnikker and Sophia Sears.

Whittemore’s corner kick led to the first goal of the second period — by Iverson — before Devil coach Robert Smith sent normal goalkeeper Kristen Chastain to midfield.

In stunning succession, Chastain had three goals — including a one-touch blast after an interception 20 yards out and a header off another Whittemore corner. Quick’s back-pass set up Chastain’s third tally.

Defender Willa Moffat later collected her first goal of 2014 (assist Chastain), then DeKnikker and Kylie Thompson finished the Davis onslaught.

That win put the Blue Devils at 13-0-2.

DHS JV boys golf

The Blue Devils topped Will C. Wood and Benicia in back-to-back matches March 21 and 28.

In the first outing, at Wildhorse Golf Course, each DHS golfer beat his opponent as Utkarsh Uppal and Kyle England carded 46s. Close behind were Nathan Koh and Quinn Foster, with Dylan Lee (50) and Cameron Parkhurst (66) rounding out the top six. Guest player Jordan King had a 58.

Topping Benicia by 54 strokes, also at Wildhorse, the Devils didn’t have a player shoot over 47.

Patrick Baek and England had 42 each, Matt Hill and Scott Korinke had 44s with Dan Shuman (46) and Alex Hill (47) filling out the top six. Lee, guest playing, carded a 43.

DHS JV girls lacrosse

With light rain falling throughout the first half, the Blue Devils dropped a 16-3 decision to visiting Oak Ridge.

The Trojans took a 10-0 lead to intermission, but Tess McDaniel put DHS on the board after a nice drive to the net. Essence Moore and Abbey Eaton also scored for the Devils (3-5).

During spring break — and down eight players — Davis battled unbeaten Bella Vista down to the wire before losing, 8-7.

Ella Silverstein scored twice in the first with Chloe Nicolet, Isabel Realyvasquez and Tess McDaniel also finding the net.

With the locals leading 5-4 at the break, goalkeeper Kiyo Hahn had racked up five saves and Chiara Armstrong had an assisted on Nicolet’s goal.

Heavy rain impacted visibility, leading to dropped passes and struggles for ground balls, but McDaniel and Esther Wang tallied before a last-minute Bronco strike was the difference.

DHS JV baseball

Playing three games in three days last week, the Blue Devils went 2-1.

After 11-1 and 17-0 wins over Laguna Creek and Monterey Trail, respectively, DHS fell at Elk Grove, 3-1.

Against MTHS, Ray Young hurled a no-hitter.

In the game at Laguna Creek, Gabe Gutierrez tripled, drove in a run and scored twice, supporting brilliant pitching from starter Peter Frame and reliever Solomon Biers-Ariel.

Frame allowed only two hits in four innings, fanning three and walking but one, to pick up the mercy-rule-shortened victory. Biers-Ariel threw a scoreless fifth.

Daniel Henrickson (1-for-2) scored three times and Jacob Avila went 2-for-3.

Young’s gem at home last Thursday saw the pitcher fan seven (he walked four).

Catcher Mason Shorts doubled and singled to drive in four runs and clean-up hitter Tyler Gibson smacked two hits, drove in three runs and scored in the victory.

Biers-Ariel added two hits and scored three times from his lead-off spot while Gutierrez tripled again.

In Friday’s encounter at Elk Grove, Devil hurler Pierce Tujo allowed a first-inning, two-run single before settling in to pitch a dandy.

Davis closed the gap in the third, when Biers-Ariel reached on an error, Henrickson singled and Gutierrez walked. Biers-Ariel came home when Gibson was plunked by a pitch.

In going six innings, Tujo was tapped for five hits and three earned runs, but struck out eight and walked only two.

Davis boys JV lacrosse

Rolling through four recent opponents, the Blue Devils won those games by a combined score of 52-5.

Last Friday, DHS spanked Bella Vista, 10-3, as Justin Reno, Sean Gellen, Quinn Harty, Aidan Mager and Connor Amesbury scored early goals for the locals. Gellen ultimately accounted for four scores after a second-half hat trick.

Austin Griffiths also scored, while Mager had four assists and Enya Fujishima and Paul Buhlman were dominant on defense.

It was 17-2 on April 1 as Lincoln hoped the final was an April Fool’s joke.

Already up 2-0 on Griffiths and Gellen net-finders, the Devils got hot in the second quarter.

Buhlman led the defense with five takeaways, once forcing a jump-steal that led to a Reno goal, one of his three on the day.

Griffiths finished with six goals in that contest, while Mager had three and four assists and Tom Thornton, Garrison Koeberer and Jake Griffiths excelled on defense.

In an 11-0 rout of Tamalpais (March 28), Reno had another hat trick with Noah Lockherd and Austin Griffiths each netting two.

That came after a 14-0 win over Terra Linda (March 25), in which Thornton and Austin Griffiths each had four scores and goalkeeper Miles Herget was untouchable.

“The game ball went to Miles,” said coach Loren Silverstein. “What a thumbs-up for giving this team a shutout.

“It was great, too, to have Tom Thornton back in full form.”

Silverstein said Davis was down to 14 players, but nonetheless “showed good ball movement and a great effort.”

Buhlman again led in takeaways with Gellen, Fujishima, the Griffiths brothers and Mager slick on defense.

Gellen and Koeberer won a combined 13-of-18 face-offs.
