The UC Davis women’s basketball team had a successful week, beating Santa Clara (Wednesday) and Houston Baptist (Saturday). Though the victories each featured team efforts, one Aggie stood tallest: Sydnee Fipps.
The junior from Mariposa totaled 45 points in the two games, on her way to earning Big West Player of the Week honors on Monday.
The selection marks the first weekly conference award for a UCD player since Fipps claimed the honor back on March 4 of last season.
The 5-foot-10 forward scored 22 points — including 16 in the second half — as the Aggies topped the Broncos, 75-70, before canning 23 points and adding five boards in an overtime win over Houston Baptist. Fipps finished with nine rebounds and six assists for the week, and sank an impressive 14 of 15 free-throw attempts.
The 2012-13 all-conference first-teamer now needs 143 points to become the 16th UCD player to reach 1,000 for her career. The Aggies return to action on Saturday (2 p.m.) with a Causeway Classic home matchup against Sacramento State.
