Though the match is being played in Chicago on Wednesday, there will be a distinct Davis flavor to the quarter of the field in front of the Fire’s goal when that MLS squad hosts San Jose beginning at 5:30 p.m.
It will feel that way because Chicago defender and former Davis High star Jalil Anibaba will be trying to defend against El Macero resident Adam Jahn, who prepped at Jesuit, and is a Rookie for the Year candidate for the Earthquakes.
Anibaba has started all 15 games for the Fire in his third season, tying for the team lead with 1,350 minutes played. Though he anchors the Chicago defense, the former Santa Clara and North Carolina standout also has two assists and four shots on goal in 2013.
Jahn, meanwhile, has been a revelation for the Quakes, who picked him out of Stanford in the supplemental draft. Jahn has started eight games and his four goals are second on the team and among the top of the MLS rookie list.
Wednesday’s match will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet plus.
