NORTHRIDGE — It was fitting that Paolo Mancasola’s 3-pointer with 23 seconds left in Thursday’s contest was the dagger for the UC Davis men’s basketball team.

Mancasola scored a career-high 18 points at The Matadome, adding a team-high six assists as the Aggies defeated Cal State Northridge, 74-71. The late trey turned a two-point UCD lead into a more comfortable five-point cushion and helped the Aggies (6-10, 2-3 Big West) win their sixth game of the season, one more than they won in all of the 2011-12 campaign.

It also got UCD its first victory in Northridge since Nov. 22, 1986, when both teams competed at the Division II level as members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Three other Aggies scored in double digits against the Matadors (9-9, 0-6) on Thursday as senior guard Corey Hawkins finished with 17 points, while junior guard Ryan Sypkens and sophomore forward J.T. Adenrele finished with 13 points each.

Adenrele led all UCD players with nine rebounds, falling just one board shy of recording his third double-double of the year.

Stephen Maxwell led Northridge with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Aggies will end their road trip on Saturday in Hawaii. The newest members of the Big West will host UCD at 9 p.m.
