Miller leads UCD in gymnastics

Senior Marcy Miller won the individual all-around with a career-high 38.775 total while junior Erika Van Dyke led a 1-2-3 Aggie sweep on floor exercise, helping UC Davis score a winning 191.300 in a season-opening womens gymnastics home triangular meet at the Pavilion Sunday afternoon. San Jose State finished second with a 190.600 while Alaska Anchorage took third at 188.675.

The Aggies kick off the 2011 season with a 2-0 record.

Van Dyke posted a career-best 9.875 to win the individual floor competition. Sophomore Michelle Ho finished right behind her with a 9.850, also a career high. Miller turned in a third personal-best performance with a 9.825, tying San Jose States Katie Valleau for third place. As a team, UC Davis compiled a 48.975 on floor to climb from third place to the win in the fourth and final rotation.

Spartan Thomasina Wallace enjoyed a strong performance, taking uneven bars (9.800) while third on vault (9.700) and tied for third on beam (9.700). Other Aggie highlights included senior Michele Hurlock, who posted a personal-best 9.725 to share second place on uneven bars.

UC Davis returns to action on Friday in a triangular meet with SJSU at California. It is a meet that originally was scheduled for Sunday.
