Mistakes hurt DHS in softball loss

The Davis High softball team showed what it could do in the early part of Monday’s Delta Valley Conference opener at Franklin, then learned that it has to stay tough through the final out in a 7-6 loss to the Wildcats.

The Blue Devils had a four-run lead in the first few innings and was ahead 6-4 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but late mistakes cost them the game.

“You can’t leave runners on base and you can’t make errors in crucial situations,” said DHS coach Art Guerra. “We are too young to make critical mistakes and rebound from that.

“We’ll regroup and start over (today). It’s tough because this puts us in a must-win situation for the rest of our (DVC) games.”

The Devils will get a chance to work things out in practice on Tuesday as their scheduled game against Del Oro has been canceled. Davis will get back into its conference slate with a Wednesday home contest against Grant at 4:15 p.m.
