Not just athletes, UCD men’s water polo team honored for academics

By
March 23, 2011 |

Six student-athletes plus the UC Davis men’s team collectively earned distinction in the 2010 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic awards program.

Junior Ryan Hagens and senior Carlos Martinez each garnered mentions in the superior classification, while Kevin Meisel, Michael Millstein, Kevin Peat and Matt Richardson represented UCD in the excellent category. Furthermore, the Aggies compiled a team GPA of 3.020, good for 13th among all collegiate teams from both the NCAA and NAIA.

To be eligible for ACWPC All-Academic recognition, a student-athlete must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. The honor roll features three classifications: outstanding (3.71-4.0), superior (3.41-3.70) and excellent (3.20-3.40).

Both Hagens, an exercise biology major, and Martinez, a psychology major, are three-time honorees.

UCD went 18-10 during the 2010 season, finishing second to Loyola Marymount in the Western Water Polo Association.
