DHS boys polo crushes Bear Creak in section opener

There is no mercy rule in high school water polo, otherwise Bear Creek would have been crying “uncle” after its first-quarter pummeling by the Davis High boys team in Saturday’s first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs in Modesto. The Blue Devils jumped out to 10-0 first-quarter lead and stretched it to 14-0 at the […]

What would Devil football be without Brian Reioux?

He’s a fan. The guy also can be a psychologist, adviser or friend. Ask Blue Devil head coach Steve Smyte, and he’ll tell you that his sideline sidekick can also be a defensive coordinator or fortune teller. Sometimes he’s a faith healer. So who is this guy? Leonardo da Vinci Jr.? A descendant of Albert […]

That dessert looked good, but it’s just as well

For the second straight year, the Amgen Tour of California is missing Davis. It wasn’t for lack of trying as the Davis folks again put our city’s best foot forward — but organizers of the nation’s top cycling road race decided Santa Rosa would be the kickoff on May 13. Not having the Tour is […]
