SALT LAKE CITY — Brad Peacock had his best start in three months, allowing a single unearned run in six innings to lead the Sacramento River Cats to a 7-1 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Wednesday at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Peacock, who had gone just 1-5 over his last 10 starts, scattered three hits over six innings, striking out four and walking just one. A night after Cats pitchers surrendered a season-high 17 runs, Peacock tossed his first start without an earned run since April 13, Sacramento’s home opener. He improved to 8-7 on the season while evening the four-game series at a game apiece.
After the River Cats plated a single run in the third, fourth and fifth innings, Stephen Parker busted the game open with a three-run homer in the sixth, stretching the lead to 6-1 and giving Peacock and the bullpen all the runs they would need.
The loss fell to Bees starter Greg Smith (5-8), who allowed six runs — five earned — in six innings of work.
Collin Cowgill also went deep for the Cats, hitting a solo blast in the fifth. Grant Green chipped in with a pair of doubles, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
The series continues Thursday, with Oakland Athletics right-hander Brett Anderson scheduled to start for Sacramento in a Major League rehabilitation assignment.
