With one eye looking ahead to the upcoming Pacific Coast League playoffs, the Sacramento River Cats dropped their regular-season finale at Colorado Springs, 6-5, on Monday.
The loss snapped the Cats’ 10-game winning streak and sent Sacramento into Wednesday’s postseason opener in Reno at 88-56 for the season. The River Cats finished the year with a 7-4 record in extra-inning games and went 14-2 against the Sky Sox in 2011.
The first of a five-game series in Reno begins at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday. Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) will be played at Raley Field over the weekend.
On Monday, Sacramento infielder Wes Timmons went 0-for-5 to snap a 15-game hitting streak. He also took the loss on the mound, allowing the game-winning run in the 10th inning as Cats manager Darren Bush looked to keep his bullpen fresh with the playoffs looming.
Pinch-hitter Joel Galarraga had tied the game for the River Cats with a two-out single to left in the top of the ninth.
